Why do we offer you treasures that we have been looking for and found with much effort? Quite simply because we needed them first in order to illustrate – copyright-free – the different Bach websites and then also to refinance the expenses, in order to always be able to "lift new treasures". It is not easy for us to give them away.

This little Bach biography is not meant to be read. It is really too small for that. Almost an antique, it was printed nearly "identical" again in 1978 and 1985. In top condition, it is rare to find.

This little biography – or rather the text – is by Johann Nikolaus Forkel and actually a bit small to read. But it is not intended for that. Only with the protective slipcase, the small antique is a complete ensemble and a wonderful and original gift or a perfect little decoration, best behind glass in a noble place in your house or apartment.
Only if you are constantly "on the road" in search of new Bach treasures, you encounter it here and there and a few people inform us when they "get their hands" on such a gem. Of course, it is not a new book, brand new, and you can see tiny damages on the slipcase. However, the book is – because of the slipcase – immaculate and except for a slight darkening as new. For the sake of completeness, it should be mentioned that the copy pictured is not the one we are sending you.
And whether this cute little biography will quickly increase in value over the years, we can't say. However, the circulation is of course relatively small, and our websites are visited every month by thousands of visitors from all over the world.

The tiniest Bach biography is the smallest book about Bach in the world and almost a real antique. It is a rarity anyway. And the country in which this treasure was published no longer exists.

The state that existed for only a whole 40 years is the German Democratic Republic, the GDR, the now "New Federal States" in the East of Germany. It is indeed tiny, even much smaller than the smallest biography about Johann Sebastian Bach, the one with the text by Johann Nikolaus Forkel, which you at least still encounter now and then. In 1985, the then GDR celebrated the 300th anniversary of the birth of the composer Bach and proudly issued this unusual mini-combination: this very small booklet, to the left of it a medallion made of Meissen porcelain and both together in a reddish brown leather binding, a case with a flap to close it. The printing on the book and case is in gold, the Bach seal still shows the then correct number of seven pins on the crown. Quite accurately it measures 38 x 56 millimeters, the booklet, the case measures 62 x 72 millimeters (... please check here, what that is in inches). Certainly, no one bought this little book to read, although the content is really exciting: with pictures and old documents and also a lot of text. And because it was not intended for reading, but as a decoration, this book, if you can find and buy it, is practically always as new, with the smallest traces of use. That is why the photo here absolutely corresponds to the copy that we will send you if you buy it.
